High Attitude Dance Academy(HADA) is a privately-owned dance academy in the beautiful Gunnison, Colorado. HADA offers children and teen classes in groups of age and ability in three levels (recreational, intermediate, and competitive) in ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, celtic, and hip hop. Adults are welcome to jump in on one of our great Zumba Fitness classes offered multiple times per week, or one of our great adult dance classes! HADA strives to offer technical training and artistic skills in a positive, motivating environment, while teaching dancers’ discipline and self-confidence.
Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Jazz, and Combo Instructor
Crystal’s credentials include over 20 years of dance training in classical ballet at Fletcher School of Dance and Asheville Center of Performing Arts, with performances with the Land of the Sky Civic Ballet and at North Carolina School of the Arts. She held principal and corps parts with the Asheville City Ballet in Asheville, North Carolina. She holds an Associate of Science in Elementary Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies/ Liberal Arts with Elementary Education emphasis. In Crystal’s four year tenure as Director of Dance and Arts Education at the Gunnison Arts Center, Crystal created an original ballet, A Winter’s Dream, and founded the Gunnison Valley Junior and Senior Ballet in the Fall of 2009. These groups have performed and competed at the Youth America Grand Prix Ballet Competition and Workshop, as well as StarQuest Dance Competition, where they received multiple standings, including 1st and 2nd place top score. Crystal was Gunnison High School Dance Team Coach for the 2009-2010 school year. In July of 2010, Crystal attended the Dance Educators of America’s Level One Dance Teacher Certification Program in New York, NY. She received an award of merit and certificates in six dance styles- classical ballet, jazz, tap, theatrical acrobatics/tumbling, contemporary, and classical jazz, as well as attending anatomy and musical theory courses. Dance has always been a huge part of Crystal’s life, and she loves sharing it with the community of Gunnison through her classes and performances.

Kate’s credentials include over 14 years of dance training in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and hip-hop. She has danced with the Gunnison High School Dance Team where she competed at a national level and received multiple medals, danced at The Gandy Dancer in Aurora where she was a part of a number of dance productions, and participated in intensive workshops and performances in Crested Butte’s Dancesummer for multiple years. Local productions have included corps parts in The Nutcracker, A Winter’s Dream, and solo and duet parts in various productions with GHS Dance Team, The Gandy Dancer, and GAC School of Dance. She studied as a dance major at Columbia College under the instruction of Darrell Jones, Jennifer Grisham, and Dardi McGinley-Gallivan. While in Chicago, Kate was employed by The Harris Theatre for Music and Dance where she was given the opportunity to meet and work with professional dance companies, such as American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet. In returning to Gunnison, Kate taught dance at the Gunnison Arts Center School of Dance 2004-2011. In 2010 Kate was certified by Zumba Fitness in Zumba Basic I, Zumba Basic II, and Zumba Toning. She is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology at Western State College. She is excited to use this major and her knowledge of the human body to create a well-informed, healthy class structure.
Jessica’s credentials include 17 years of dance training in jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet, modern and hip-hop. Growing up in Gunnison, she danced competitively in jazz, performed in the Nutcracker with David Taylor Dance Theatre, and held a lead role with the Gunnison Valley Senior Ballet in A Winter’s Dream. She was a soloist with GHS Dance Team and the GAC School of Dance, where she received a gold medal in the StarQuest Dance Competition. She was on GHS Varsity Dance Team all four years of her high school career, two of which the team attended the NDA’s National Dance Team Competition, one of which was under her leadership as captain. In high school, Jessica was recruited by the Mesa State Dance Team, and later went on to audition and be accepted onto the team. During her education at Mesa State College, she studied under Melonie Buchanan Murray, danced in conjunction with the All Star Express, and attended NCA Collegiate Spirit Camp at The University of Las Vegas in Las Vegas, NV along with the top schools on the west coast. In returning to Gunnison, Jessica was the assistant coach of the Gunnison High School Dance Team in 2009 and 2010. Jessica taught jazz and tap for the Gunnison Arts Center School of Dance 2006-2011.
Sarah Muirhead has been dancing for 21 years. At the age of four, she started dancing at Sarah Shaw Dance Studio in Pueblo, Colorado. She has competed at National competitions in tap dancing, riverdancing, and clog dancing in which most of these groups took the Grand Champion award. Sarah even got the thrilling opportunity to tap dance in Disneyland. Sarah started participating in dance classes in Gunnison her freshman year of college. By her sophomore year, she was teaching Riverdance classes. After she graduated from Western State Colorado University with a Bachelor of Arts, Sarah married her best friend Paul. She continues to dance her heart out for God and teaches the Riverdance classes at High Attitude Dance Academy.
Chelsey’s credentials include almost ten years of competitive gymnastics. During this years she earned many medals and titles including two state championships for both beam and vault exercises. No longer competing Chelsey joined the coaching staff at East Tennessee Cheer & Gymnastics in Kingsport, TN. For four years she taught level one through four competitive girls team, cheer jump classes, and pre-school gymnastics classes teaching 2 year olds through 5 years olds. Since moving to Gunnison in 2005, Chelsey attended and graduated from Western State College in 2009 and joined the HADA family in 2012
